HMRC has issued a reminder that claims for furlough days in February 2021 must be made by 11.59 today (15 March 2021).
According to the Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals (CIPP), employers can make their claim for February before, during or after processing their payroll.
However, the CIPP said it is best to make a claim once an employer is sure of the exact number of hours an employee has worked to avoid having to amend their claim later.
Recently, the Government announced the coronavirus job retention scheme (CJRS) has been extended until the end of September 2021.
Until 30 June 2021, employees will continue to receive 80% of their current salary for hours not worked with no employer contribution beyond NICs and workplace pensions required in April, May and June 2021.
In July, employers will be required to contribute 10% of wages for hours not worked, and in August and September this will increase to 20%. This will continue to be topped up by the Government so employees will still receive the full 80%.
